WELCOME TO PORT OF BERGEN - "The Gateway to the Fjords of Norway"
The worldwide cruise industry has seen a growth of 8% yearly. In the USA 12% of people choose to go on cruises as
their type of holiday, while only 1,5% of Europeans do so - a figure that should indicate an opportunity for increasing
the numbers of European cruise passengers.
Port of Bergen has for many years been active in promoting Bergen as a cruise destination. The result is that Bergen has more cruise calls than any other Norwegian port, and it is without doubt, the leading cruise port in Norway.
2012 was our best cruise season ever, with 322 cruise calls bringing approx 447 000 passengers to visit Bergen.
These visits are extremely valuable both for the port and the city.
From a passengers point of view it is a matter of being at the right place at the right time
The cruise season has now been extended. Having previously started in April/May and ending in the middle of
September, the first cruise call in 2012 arrived in Bergen on the 25th of February, and the season will last until the 1st of October, and the last call will be on the 12th of December.
The prospects for 2012 and 2013 are very promising.
